Jocelyn and Jacqui
Founders
Jocelyn and Jacqui are locals who grew up on Lake Bernard. Working on their parent's Christmas tree farm gave them both a love for the outdoors. They completed their first mud run together and over the years have completed several races separately in Canada and the USA. They also hiked Shenandoah National Park and part of the Appalachian Trail together in 2018.
When they first discovered mud runs, they knew right away it was something they had to bring to the Almaguin Highlands! The camaraderie at a mud run and the sheer thrill of overcoming EVERY obstacle builds confidence that can be applied to all areas of your life! A mud run is something that can bring the whole community together.
The idea for the Extreme Bush Race began shortly after their first mud run, 13 years ago, and they were able to bring it to life for the first time in 2018 with the help of their dad, Bill Copeman (Past District Governor and current Treasurer for the Almaguin Highlands Lions Club).
They've been excited for the growth of this race year after year. They've added 1-3 new obstacles every year and add more trails and race options for kids & adult races.
The community support through sponsorships, volunteers and participation has been phenomenal! With all the proceeds funding new programs & activities, helping the local schools, the food banks and Christmas Cheer, this is the most amazing race in the Highlands!!
